US President Donald Trump on Wednesday responded to questions about his prospects of winning the Nobel peace prize , saying he had “no idea” but highlighted, according to him, his administration’s record in resolving global conflicts.
Asked by a journalist at the White House whether he thought he could win the prize - which will be announced Friday - Trump said he had been nominated by several countries, but remained uncertain of the outcome. He suggested that the Nobel committee would find some reason to not award him.
“I have no idea... Marco would tell you we settled seven wars. We're close to settling an eighth. I think we'll end up settling the Russia situation... I don't think anybody in history has settled that many. But perhaps they'll find a reason not to give it to me,” Trump said, speaking to reporters.
Trump has called on multiple occasions that he deserves a Nobel prize for doing what he says “nobody has done.”
Among the issues he takes credit for resolving conflicts run from Armenia and Azerbaijan to DRC and Rwanda.
Trump has also made repeated assertions that he was instrumental in stopping the conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this year in May, in his bid for the Nobel. The claim categorically rejected by New Delhi, saying that no third-party mediation was involved in ceasefire between the two neighbours,
The Nobel peace prize, awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel committee, is among the world’s most prestigious honours and recognises significant contributions to peace efforts. Trump was previously nominated during his first term but did not win.
The 2025 Nobel Peace prize comes amid a renewed international focus on the Gaza conflict , where Trump has proposed a 20-point peace plan that has been accepted by Israel and is under negotiation with Hamas, raising speculation about his role in potentially brokering a major ceasefire.
The announcement of this year’s peace prize is scheduled for Friday in Oslo, Norway.
