In a major development that has sent shockwaves through Rajasthan’s aspirant community, the Rajasthan High Court has officially cancelled the Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment 2021 for 859 posts following a high-profile paper leak scandal .
The examination, which had been under intense legal scrutiny since last year, faced petitions demanding its cancellation on August 13, 2021. A division bench led by Justice Sameer Jain reserved its judgment on August 14 after hearing extensive arguments from all parties involved.
Government admits irregularities, candidates protest
During the proceedings, the state government acknowledged that irregularities were detected in the recruitment process. Authorities identified 68 candidates linked to the scandal, including 54 trainee SIs, 6 selected candidates, and 8 absconding candidates. The government had argued that punitive action could be taken against those implicated without scrapping the entire recruitment process.
However, candidates who had cleared the exam on merit, some of whom had even resigned from other government positions to join as trainee SIs, opposed the cancellation. They argued that annulling the recruitment would be grossly unfair to aspirants who had genuinely earned their place.
Entire recruitment cancelled due to paper leak
Despite these protests, the High Court took the unprecedented step of cancelling the entire recruitment, citing the gravity of the paper leak. This verdict now leaves hundreds of candidates in limbo, halting their long-awaited appointments under the 2021 SI recruitment drive.
The ruling marks a decisive moment in Rajasthan’s law enforcement recruitment, signaling zero tolerance for examination malpractice, regardless of the number of candidates implicated.
