Sky News interrupted for 'breaking news' as Prince Andrew dealt devastating blow

Sky News was interrupted by a breaking news announcement - and it's not an update that Prince Andrew will welcome. Presenter Jayne Secker halted the evening show to share that King Charles has formally stripped Prince Andrew of all his royal titles and honours. Looking earnest as a breaking news banner flashed on screen, she said: "We're breaking into that story because we have some breaking news coming to us from Buckingham Palace.

"They have released a statement saying that His Majesty the King has today initiated a formal process to remove the style titles and honours of Prince Andrew. It comes after weeks of speculation about the disgraced royal. He relinquished most of his official titles just a week ago, but kept the title of Prince. We have a statement from Buckingham Palace that hopefully I can bring you in full," she said.

She then went on the read the official statement released by the palace. "It says, His Majesty today initiated a formal process to remove the style titles and honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

"His lease on Royal Lodge has to date provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation.

"These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been and will always remain with the victims and survivors of all forms of abuse."

Following that, she provided a recap of the statement, incorporating some reference points for the viewers. She pointed out: "There has been a huge amount of controversy over the prince's accommodation, the fact that he is in Royal Lodge, that he lives there under a peppercorn rent arrangement.

"He did pay a large amount of £7 million at the very start of his lease, which has been used for repairs on the property, but going forward, it is only a peppercorn rent.

"But we are now hearing that his lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence, but we now understand that the king has served formal notice to surrender the lease and he is going to move to alternative private accommodation.

She also acknowledged that the use of "Their Majesties" in the statement means it is "bringing in the king and the queen, who wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been and will always remain with the victims and any survivors of any and all forms of abuse."
