TNT Sport co-commentator Lucy Ward has suggested that Brentfordhead coach Keith Andrews made a double substitution before Bruno Fernandes' penalty on purpose. Unitedwere awarded a spot-kick when Bryan Mbeumo was pulled to the floor by Nathan Collins inside the box.
Ruben Amorim's men were putting pressure on the Bees to level the scoring after Igor Tudor scored twice in the first 20 minutes at the Gtech Community Stadium. Benjamin Sesko halved the deficit with his first goal for the club, with Matheus Cunha coming close to levelling.
Towards the end of the game, United were awarded a penalty when Collins pulled Mbeumo to the ground inside Brentford's penalty area after Cunha's early cross. Referee Craig Pawson pointed to the spot after a brief pause before the video assistant referee reviewed the footage for a red card.

Collins escaped a red card, and Fernandes missed the penalty, his second spot-kick miss of the season. However, due to the check, the Portuguese was forced to wait close to five minutes between the penalty being given and it being taken.
A double substitution from the home side also added a further delay. Andrews replaced Dango Outtarra and Aaron Hickey with Keane Lewis-Potter and Rico Henry.
Fernandes stepped up and was denied by Caoimhin Kelleher, who got down low to deny the United captain. Speaking on TNT Sports' coverage of the game in the capital, Ward suggested the double change was done on purpose.
"He (Keith Andrews) did that on purpose and he's got his reward for it," she claimed.
