Families are being urged to inspect all radiator valves and 'bleed' the radiators "as this will release any trapped air that could cause the radiator to become potentially noisy and distribute the heat unevenly".

Village Heating clarified that valves can "seize up" due to the internal packing sticking together, which can hinder its efficiency.

According to the experts, performing this check is a "quick and easy" task. However, if you encounter a jammed valve, you might need to call in a professional, reports the Express.

Bleeding your radiator, if there's any trapped air inside, is also a simple task that can be easily handled. Village Heating explained: "Firstly turn off the heating after getting the radiator warm, then insert the special 'bleed' key and turn it anti-clockwise.

"You will hear the air being released and this will be followed by a small amount of water, so have a dish or cloth handy. Close the valve and then run the cold water time for a minute or so to adjust the pressure."

As the chilly weather sets in and you start using your heating system daily, that's when issues often arise, so taking simple steps like bleeding your radiators can make a world of difference.

Village Heating also pointed out that the average boiler has a lifespan of about 10 years, after which it's advisable to consider a replacement.
